Do you want to learn the foundations of massage? Do you want to know more about our Registered Massage Therapy program? Then sign up for the upcoming weekend workshop to experience first hand what this amazing career is all about!
The weekend workshop is a 3- day workshop from:
Saturday evening February 21 – 6 pm-9 pm.
Sunday February 22 – 9am-5pm
Monday February 23 – 9am-5 pm
The weekend workshop is around the corner! The first evening will be an evening of meet and greet (we play the Ice-Breaker game), some theory (we play match the laymen terms to anatomical medical terms and learn the general principles of massage with the numbers game) and all of you will receive and give a massage! We will be practicing table set-up, draping, biomechanics and Swedish Massage (starting off with rocking, compressions, effleurage and petrissage – such as open c’s and wringing). There will also be a tour of the campus. VCMT will supply you with a workshop booklet but you will be required to bring the following:
- Massage Oil ( preferably a vegetable oil such as almond, grapeseed, or anything light and thin). Please make sure your oil container is in a non breakable bottle. Thanks!
- Two sets of flat sheets ( preferably twin size/double size sheets)
- One soft hand towel ( this will be used for the face cradle).
- Bring a pen. You need your own pen to participate in the games.
Come prepared and be open to learning some new skills. It will be a fun evening of learning the foundations of massage. We will also be practicing professional communication and working with a pressure/pain scale.
During their clinical internship, VCMT students; clockwise from left: Robyn, Rachel & Dan…practice their massage skills at various locations. Here we have our 400 level students at Kalev Fitness Solution outreach. Photos by Tia Ramos.
On Sunday, you will be seeing more demonstrations on draping, Swedish Massage and professional communication. We will massage the back, hips, posterior legs and feet.
On Monday morning, we will have a guest speaker, Owner and Director of VCMT, Levi Giesbrecht, who will share his mission statement on the college and the exciting opportunities that await new graduates when they finish the program.
After our guest speaker, there will be more massage demonstrations on the neck, shoulders, arms and hands. In the afternoon, it will be integration massage of all techniques as well as an assessment by your instructor and teacher’s assistants. There will also be a final exam at the end.
Please note there is a one hour lunch break on Sunday and Monday.
After the entire workshop, you will be able to perform a full body relaxation massage to any of your family members and friends, utilizing safe techniques for yourself and your massage client.
Most of all, have fun! This is a safe fun positive learning environment.
All instruction, demonstrations and supervision will be performed by experienced Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs). RMT’s in British Columbia are trained health care professionals and are licensed by the College of Massage Therapists of British Columbia.
