Enthusiastic Students Rock the Intro Weekend Workshop!

Intro Weekend Workshop Oct 18-20, 2014. Photo taken by Tia Ramos.

This photo was taken on the last day of the weekend workshop. Can you tell these students had a great time?  They absolutely did!

These students were such an enthusiastic group of learners.  Not only did they succeed in learning about relaxation massage, they also made new friends in the workshop and created a sense of community in class. They got a chance to visit a live Manual Skills 100 class in action (Thank you Full Time Class Lokahi for showing them how Tapotement is done ).   By watching other students in the program, this group mastered the technique – Tapotement, which is a rhythmic percussive technique.  The sound of their drumming and chopping was like a harmonious drumming session.  This group learned about the general principles of massage and how to use essential communication when giving a massage.  Each and every one of them also experienced receiving a massage all weekend!   They were also happy to discover the many job opportunities available for VCMT graduates.  You will be seeing these friendly faces this coming January 2015 for the full time and part time programs. Please make sure to say hi!

A special thanks to Cosmina Irimie, Taylor Odobas, and recent VCMT graduate, from Ohana class,  Grant Smith for assisting and sharing their journey in the program.  Their stories were insightful and heartwarming.  A special thanks to our guest speaker/and VCMT owner Levi Giesbrecht who shared his mandate and vision for the school with the learners.

If you are interested in a career in Massage Therapy, researching Massage Therapy schools or just want to learn about massage, please contact Rae Leduc and enroll in one of our upcoming weekend workshops.

“Massage Train”

“Massage Train” – Photo by Tia Ramos.

A great group of 16 enthusiastic weekend workshop participants.  Please welcome these lovely new students this coming fall.   This photo-op was created by the participants aptly naming it “Massage Train”.  In this photo, they are performing their favourite Swedish Massage technique – muscle squeezing to the Upper Trapezius.   This group fulfilled the lesson objective of the weekend which was “To perform a safe, full body relaxation massage”.  The learners are prepared for the upcoming busy work load and fully prepared to use Bloom’s taxonomy as their model of learning.  When combining all 3 domains of learning, such as cognitive, psycho-motor and affective domains, these learners will succeed in learning!

A special thanks to our guest student speakers, who came in briefly, taking a break from their final exams,  to share their highlights and challenges of being a student.   The weekend workshop participants appreciated their honest portrayal of their personal journey.   A special thanks to Cosmina I., Michelle R., Sam J, and Varney-Rae F..

A very special thanks to clinic supervisor Jessica Hutson RMT for assisting me.

The next VCMT Intro Weekend Workshop is on Oct 18-20,    If you would like more information or to register, please contact Raeanne Leduc at rleduc@vcmt.ca

The Pyramid Huddle

Another fun weekend teaching the Intro Weekend Workshop to an awesome group of 15 participants.  Thank you to all the participants who came out to learn foundations of Swedish Massage, practice new skills and have fun!  The lesson objective – to perform a safe, full body relaxation massage was fulfilled!

In this photo op, I asked the participants on day 1 to think of a creative group photo that would be taken on the last day of the workshop (day 3) and this is their creative masterpiece.   They called it the “Pyramid Huddle”, where they all huddled in, kneeling on a well hidden massage table giving an illusion that they are resting on each others backs.   Talk about Team Spirit!   A special thanks to Tycson Boult, Varney Rae Fitzgerald and Katrina Milette for assisting in this weekend’s workshop.  The participants were appreciative and grateful to hear their personal insights and journey into the RMT program.

The next VCMT Intro Weekend Workshop is on Aug 9th-11th.   If you would like more information or to register, please contact Raeanne Leduc at rleduc@vcmt.ca
